Today there was a somewhat interesting sight along a road near us that is fairly heavily traveled. I should note that this road, like many roads, is lined with lamp posts that stick out over the street. Recently, a deer had been hit by someone and was still by the side of the road. And, as usual, where dead things are, scavengers are there as well – in this case, large, black, flying scavengers. As you can see from the pictures, though, the vultures weren’t actually eating the deer, probably because of the constant stream of cars or because they had already their fill.
Either way, the vultures were just enjoying each other’s company on the lamp posts, waiting until they could eat again. It actually looked quite comical with 3-8 vultures on each lamp post all along this road. I guess the deer will be cleaned up quickly at this rate!
