This year in the garden we’re growing all the regulars: tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers, and there have been a few interesting harvests recently. There was a very large green bell pepper, an even larger tomato, a type of cucumber called lemon cucumbers, and a small bunch of very small grapes.
The bell pepper was about four and a half inches across and was probably the largest bell pepper I’ve ever seen. The tomato weighed almost two pounds with a circumference of 15″. Again, probably the largest tomato I’ve ever seen. It actually looks like a small sweet pumpkin!
The lemon cucumbers almost explain themselves; they taste just like cucumbers, but they resemble lemons. They’re a nice novelty item, to be sure, and will certainly be put to use! This bunch of grapes was the very first bunch of grapes we’ve ever successfully harvested. Though small, it (hopefully) means there will be more in the future! The grapes are actually pretty good!
By the way, all of our vegetables are certainly not gigantic and in fact, I was sorry I hadn’t also gotten pictures of some very puny red peppers and equally tiny tomatoes. It’s just that, for some reason, a few of the vegetables grew to be the huge specimens pictured above.
