FDA Approved?!

Today I read about a method of weight loss which is quite unlike any other I’ve ever heard of. It is described by its makers as “machine-assisted abdominal vomiting.” It’s actually quite repulsive. To spare you most of the details, it is a surgically implanted device in the stomach which can drain about 30% of your stomach’s contents after eating.

Judging by the title, you probably guessed that the FDA has approved this… device. They did note, however, that it is not for people who are just overweight, but rather for people who are 22 or older and obese, and who have not been able to reduce and maintain their weight through any other method.

“Studies” indicate that it does, indeed, work, but there are possible side-effects.

To me, it sounds like a very disgusting machine, whether or not it works. As for actually losing weight, I think there are healthier and less expensive alternatives to surgically vomiting.

I keep wondering what they will think of next, but that’s before “they” think of yet more things which make me wonder what they will think of next 🙂

  1. From what I’ve seen, that’s not something you and your brothers will ever have to consider

  2. Libby says:

Sounds gross. ‘Liking’ this doesn’t seem appropriate! Why not just eat 30% less food to start with?

    • Exactly what I was thinking. After they expel their food, won’t they just feel hungry again? And for the person who just wants to eat, can they just leave the valve “open” all the time? Too funny!
