Lettuce Here, Lettuce There, Lettuce Everywhere

Grown in cement mixers (around $6.50-$7.00 at Home Depot). As we pick the large heads, a baby plant takes its place. Mostly we are growing Buttercrunch in the mixers. The containers are up off the ground so we don’t have any issues with slugs (we didn’t anyway, but I thought I’d add that).

Some kind of Romaine and buttercrunch grown in a box with trash can liner. This must have been an act of desperation by someone 🙂

Grown in an old pot. I call it “old lettuce” and joke that it is rotten lettuce when it shows up on my plate 🙂 I think it is Four Seasons lettuce, but I am not positive.

Doesn’t matter where it’s grown, it does great anywhere and we get to have fresh salads anytime we desire one these days (for some twice a day, for others just once). We mix in some kale, spinach, arugula, turnip & collard greens and we get a nice flavor sensation going.

Growing a lot also allows us to share which is always a great thing.

It looks delicious. How long did it take from seed to table? I’ve just started my own garden this year. Excited to follow you.

    • All the lettuces we are eating now were started on Feb 26th (a dozen or so more plants were started every week after that). They were put outside around the 12th of March. We started eating lettuce leaves around 2nd week of April and have been eating whole lettuces regularly since the end of April. But…. we have not been patient enough to let the lettuces get to their totally full size 🙂 Looking forward to hearing all about your garden!!
