Unnecessary Refrigeration?

Perhaps some of you have the same problem we have: not enough space in our refrigerator!

Our refrigerator tends to be filled at all times, with left over food and condiments, among other things. We always eat our left over foods, but whenever my mom cooks anything, there’s usually more left over. So while we’re always taking food out of the refrigerator, it still stays full most of the time.

We also get those huge containers of ketchup, mustard, syrup, etc from Costco and the largest size of the same from the grocery store if no one gets to Costco.

More, we have pretty many people living in our home and that makes for an annoyingly crowded refrigerator. We have cold cuts stacked on bacon stacked on leftover something or other, topped with sour cream or yogurt containers. Jars of jellies and jams line the back never to see the light of day again. The door is filled with everyone’s personal favorite salad dressing, hot sauce, beverages, etc.

Anyway, today I read an article that talks about foods that you don’t need to refrigerate!

You don’t need to refrigerate ketchup (we do)! You don’t need to refrigerate maple syrup (because the water content isn’t enough for bacteria to grow – and we do). Peanut butter, which we don’t refrigerate, doesn’t need to be. We got one right 🙂 Jams and jellies don’t need to be refrigerated!!! I wonder what the pantry will look like, though.

The last two things that need not be refrigerated are barbecue sauce and butter. The former we do refrigerate and we do refrigerate unopened sticks of butter. Once they’re open, though, we leave them out.

We’re putting up a poll, but if an option isn’t covered (like our butter situation), feel free to leave a comment!

My fridge is not a problem, I don’t store in the fridge unnecessarily. My freezer is a different matter – I could do with more space there.

  2. We bought an additional freezer to cater for all our Christmas guests
