Today we harvested the last of our garden produce. We got one really small green cabbage head, two medium heads, one large green cabbage head, and a really nice, exceptionally firm, purple cabbage. There are still some small purple cabbages in the garden. We’ll see if they survive the hard freeze next week. This is our last semi-significant harvest.
We also are still getting broccoli and scallions. We could be harvesting kale as well, but we are letting the chickens eat it. We actually prefer growing our broccoli and cabbages in the fall because of the absence of worms/insects. Getting a good crop in the spring seems more hit or miss and for us in the past few years, it has been mostly misses.
On a completely and utterly unrelated note, you may notice in the picture of the cabbages that there’s a small cardboard box of peanuts towards the back. That’s because today, we went to Five Guys on the way home from a bit of a long drive. They had free peanuts! Who would pass up a good peanut?
