Growth Pattern Of Jim-Bob, the Molting Chicken

One of our hens, Jim-Bob (very feminine, right?), sat on the eggs in the coop for about three months before he realized it was futile. Then after that, he decided to lose all of his feathers. After that, it took a long time just for him to grow them back. We’ve shown a few pictures of his progress the last couple of weeks, but now that they’re mostly grown back, except for his tail feathers, we thought we’d show all the pictures we have.

The other chickens have been very mean to Jim-Bob ever since the broody period. Then, when the feathers were gone, they really harassed him. Hopefully, they will stop being mean now.

It’s odd how long it takes, but we’re glad he’s done, and hopefully he’ll start laying eggs again!

And…. we know it’s a “she”, but we just can’t bring ourselves to use the correct pronoun. I don’t know why.

Jim-Bob is adorable. Once all his feathers come in, he’ll be stunning! And eggs will be a bonus! 🙂
