I read about an SUV called the Renault Kwid that gets about 50 miles per gallon on a regular gas engine, has a top speed of 125 miles per hour, and can go from 0 to 60 in 12 seconds. This car was priced at less than $5,000, brand new. While I’m not a big fan of SUVs in general, I definitely wouldn’t mind this one.
Unfortunately for my family and everyone else in the U.S. who has to buy four digit cars, it is not available in the U.S. It does not meet the safety requirements set by the government, and therefore, you cannot buy this vehicle or others like it in the U.S..
Apparently, now six or more air bags are required for cars in the U.S., and this one only has one for the driver. Of course, air bags add a significant amount of weight and reduce fuel efficiency in the vehicle.
Too bad we can’t buy one, but we sure wish it could be our choice.
