The Pope’s Visit to Philadelphia: Drawing Closer

**** WARNING **** If you like the pope, stop reading.

A while back, we wrote about Pope Francis’s impending visit to Philadelphia, which is at the very end of the World Meeting of Families, a Catholic thing that meets every three years in various places. He is meeting to discuss “the impact of love and life of families on our society.”

Every time we see another article about the anticipated arrival of the political figure in white, it always annoys us.

We’re wondering why the pope has to go to Philadelphia and inconvenience a lot of people. Seems to us he can just make whatever speeches he wants to make on the internet and not inconvenience a soul. Wouldn’t that be the considerate and loving thing to do?

We see pictures of this person with security guards and police all around him and we wonder about the pictures. What we see is someone who is obviously very powerful, yet he is supposed to be a Christian and Christians are supposed to be humble.

The pope is also going to use the lectern that Abraham Lincoln used for his Gettysburg Address. It’s being rented from a private collector, and Robert Ciaruffoli, the president of the World Meeting of Families said, “Its simple beauty and humble role in one of American history’s most important moments reflects, in many ways, Pope Francis’ own world view.”

We wonder how much it will cost to rent the lectern and wonder if speaking from a regular old lectern wouldn’t be simpler and humbler.

“…simple beauty and humble role” may be the pope’s world view for others but it doesn’t seem to be a view he has for himself. Stopping up traffic, closing bridges, and giving people headaches getting to work while having multiple guards and policemen protecting him is not what we’d call simple beauty or a humble role.

Thinking back, one of the pope’s meetings was about environmental issues, yet he’s flying to America.

Isn’t that supposed to be bad for the environment, pope?!?

It’s annoying when famous people shut down a city and inconvenience everybody. They should just stay home, lol. The Obamas shut down Martha’s vineyard for their own vacation.Oprah came to a local flea market here and her security and entourage blocked the whole thing off for her …too bad for all the people that traveled for a fun day out and too bad for the vendors trying to sell stuff.
