Mid-July Garden Update

Today, I went around the yard and took pictures of various plants and one animal that I thought was interesting.

Most notable to me is the eggplant, because we rarely grow these. It is in a pot in a wheelbarrow 🙂 One of our mom’s friends is trying to sell her house so she can’t have a garden this year, but she really likes egg plant and so we are growing some for her.

I also think the soy bean flowers are very pretty and interesting. They are purple and white and bunched together in a tight knot.

The petunias are volunteers in the front and we don’t even know where they came from since we didn’t grow any flowers like this.

Sweet potatoes are nice and thick in the raised bed, and peppers are getting really large.

Lastly, we have several turnips growing in pots. It looks very funny, but there was no good place to grow them. They seem to like it just fine in their pot homes, though.

And just in case we don’t have enough food growing outside, we started 5 cilantro plants (for salsa) since our other plant went to seed…

harvested some potatoes today, and we ate them all 🙂
… perhaps next week, I’ll make some pictures — this day we were too eager to taste the new underground fruits …

Those peppers are huge! I have never gotten peppers like that! Do you have any good tips?

    • They are growing in an old compost pile 🙂 But we did also put new compost around them and watered them when dry (we usually don’t ever water our garden so that was novel). I think it’s also the kind of pepper plant, Golden Giant Sweet Pepper, not necessarily anything on our part.

Thanks!! I think you are being modest:). Your gardens prove my point. I do think in addition to great soil, keeping peppers well watered is a key. I’ve done some experimenting this year trying to solve my pepper dilemma, lol.
