End of May Garden Update

After a long day’s work outside, we took some pictures of the garden and other things of possible interest and then made some good iced tea.

Today, we made our iced tea from Bigelow’s Lemon Lift. Since this already has lemon in it, it allowed us to be lazy. These tea bags make really great iced tea, by the way.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the pictures and hope everyone’s gardens are looking good!

    Gorgeous, gigantic garden!!

The storm last night knocked my raised garden… I think I have to rethink this…just for herbs.
The tomatoes and water weight was just too much for it.

I have been using my basil, parsley, kale and other herbs. I even made some tea with my chocolate mint, which only tasted of strongly of mint.

    • Oh no! I know what you mean, though. The soil in our raised beds is light and fluffy, so sometimes it doesn’t hold plants as well as regular soil. Hope the storm didn’t do too much damage :/

I’d never heard of chocolate mint before! Is it supposed to taste like mint and chocolate? I too made tea today with a few peppermint leaves, which was pretty good.

We don’t have any herbs like that yet, except mint. We have been eating things like kale, lettuce, and broccoli, but no exceptional harvests have been had yet.

The plants seem OK – the top came off the bottom. I may have to divide and replant. Maybe this weekend.

The chocolate mint smells like chocolate mint, but only tastes like mint. At least I haven’f figured out how to cook the leaves and keep the chocolate flavor. Kind of like purple string beans. They are purple until you cook them – then they just turn green. Unlike rainbow carrots that actually have different color roots.

      • Ah. Purple string beans and rainbow carrots?! So many plant varieties I have never heard of!

I belonged to a few different organic veggie co-ops.
But it just doesn’t pay to get a share for two people. As it is with just the plants I have I’ll be making a bunch of pasta red sauce to freeze šŸ˜‰
