Hyperloop Speed Tube Transportation

People have been designing a really fast transportation system with architect students form UCLA and other people. A trip that might take 6 hours to drive (from LA to San Fransisco) could take 35 minutes since the capsules you ride in can reach speeds up to 760 mph. They have it pretty much worked out and could have such a system built in 10 years for about 16 billion dollars.

We’re not sure exactly how it works so we won’t try to explain it, but if your interested, the link is at the bottom of this article.

It seems to us that there is probably a large element of risk, and we also aren’t sure we trust the students, but if it proved to work without incident, we might use it. Another thing, though; why would you need to get anywhere that fast? Maybe for an emergency, so it would be good for that. But it would be a rare occasion that you would actually need to get from LA to San Fransisco that fast. There is another good side, though. Since it is completely solar powered, a ride would only cost each passenger $30.

The CEO of Hyperloop, Dirk Ahlborn, said that it would be more a matter of figuring out how to make it a good business than of putting it together. If they do make it, well, cool, I guess. But I personally think they could make more money by using that technology for a rollercoaster, a roller coaster from LA to San Fransisco 😀

I’m guessing that if something like that were built and functional that there would be commuters who would jump at the chance to spend $30 a day (especially if they only had to go to the office once or twice a week) than have to maintain a car. And to get someplace in under an hour rather than 6… no brainer – I think I actually saw something about this on the news awhile back.

Anyway just wanted to drop by and wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season and a fantastic New Year!!!

    • Yes, I think the producers could turn it into quite the successful business. Students and workers alike (I think) would really like it. I might go on it just to experience 760 miles per hour speeds 😀

You too, Jules 🙂 Hope you and your family have a great time; Merry Christmas!

I think – just like in space, that you would not feel the speed. That is my guess anyway 🙂
But it would be an interesting experience!

It is always fun to mix traditions. 😉
We however will be sticking our toes in some warm sand soon… (that’s hubby and me).

So watch for sand in future posts 😉

      • I was thinking along those lines as well. You probably wouldn’t really be able to tell what was happening.

Going to a beach? That’s always fun, so long as the weather is warm! I will certainly keep my eyes peeled for poems of the beach 🙂
