Living Butter Lettuce

Posted: August 11, 2014 in Uncategorized

At the store, our mom picked out a kind of lettuce called Living Butter Lettuce. It’s living because it still has its roots attached to it, and they’re submerged in water. That way, the lettuce stays as fresh as possible. Our mom didn’t get it because it was supposed to be more fresh, she just wanted the lettuce and it was the only kind of butter lettuce available the day she was at the store. It was good lettuce as far as lettuces go.

When our sister saw the lettuce core with the root ball, she wanted to know what it was and when she was informed that it was lettuce, she wanted to know if you could plant it. Our mom thought it couldn’t hurt, so she planted the lettuce, and it’s definitely grown in just a few days.

I guess it’s one way to get a lettuce plant, although not the best way. We’re curious to see what the end product is going to look like.

Even though everyone knows you can grow potatoes, onions, carrots, and herbs from the produce you get from the grocery store, you don’t normally think about growing lettuce; that is, until they started selling “Living Lettuce”.
