Do Not Hold Your Breath and Drive

Ever since we were young, we would always hold our breath while passing by graveyards so as to avoid “breathing the breath of death”. We also used to hold our breath while passing through tunnels, and we still do to this day. We like to see if we can make it through the tunnels, and unless they’re really long, we usually can make it through.

Apparently, we are not the only ones to do this, because there was a news story not too long ago that reported a nineteen-year-old male in a car holding his breath through a tunnel. The difference between him and us is that he was the driver, not a passenger. He held his breath until he fainted, resulting in a three-car accident and four injuries.

It’s this kind of story where people usually say, “Just when you thought people couldn’t get any dumber!” I’ll have to add holding my breath to my list of things to avoid while driving.

  1. You start breathing again once you pass out, but if you’re driving it’s too late to do any good by then.

  2. Libby says:

I have never heard of this custom before. Doing it while driving seems especially idiotic!
