Cheap People

At around 1900, Mexico had a president named Porfirio Diaz. By 1900, he had been president for more than 30 years, even though the Mexican constitution said that no president should be in power for more than four years. How did he manage to stay in power for so long? Well, if anybody thought about running against him, Diaz’s supporters visited them and scared them so that they didn’t actually run for president. That’s pretty cheap! In addition, when a man named Fransisco Madero actually did run for president, he was arrested – and Porfirio Diaz won the election again. Can you imagine a grown person trying to stay on top by such cheesy methods? Oh yes. They are still up to it today.

On May 7, 1915, the Lusitania sank. For those of you who don’t know, the Lusitania was a British ocean liner which was hit by a German torpedo. Of course, this was during World War 1, so they were just fighting the war. Well, actually, they weren’t. The Lusitania had passengers on it so for the Germans to sink the ship broke the rules of war. It would be fine for them to sink a ship with soldiers in it, but they were supposed to leave civilians alone. The sinking of the Lusitania angered the whole world and even influenced the US’s decision to join the war.

Sadly, back then it would anger people, but now some people don’t think twice about killing civilians. Think about the US bombing Middle Eastern villages. Obviously, a village is going to have civilians in it, but the US bombed them anyway. They even justify their actions and say they believe the cost was worth it. Really? Tell that to the parents who lost a child.

Well, everyone dreams of a world where people treat one another with love, integrity, and honesty. Everyone dreams of a world where power-hungry, controlling people do not exist, or if they did, the dream is that they would be contained where they would have no effect on normal people. Everyone dreams of a world where humans could actually live their lives in peace.

Unfortunately, that will not happen this side of glory. Even with us non-aggressors, we do things which are not right, just not on the same scale as aggressive people. Until the end of this world, we will have to put up with cheap people doing cheap things and we will have to do whatever is in our power to keep cheap people in check. It is a tall order for normal people to do this kind of thing because it is in the nature of normal people to simply live and let live.
