Making Bread on a Snowy Afternoon

Posted: March 17, 2014 in Uncategorized

Today it snowed again. My dad stayed home and I got to make bread with him. We have made this wheat bread since before I was born and it is really good.  My dad has made it so much that he has the recipe for memory.

It’s pretty cool making your own bread, especially if you’re making it almost from scratch. We have a mill that grinds the wheat into flour, and we use that to make our bread. I like watching the wheat being ground up, and I also like chewing wheat berries, because it kind of reminds me of the year we grew wheat (Growing Wheat From Scratch). When we grind up the berries, the machine makes so much noise that we wear ear protection! I also like to see how much yeast makes things rise. The recipe we use makes 5-6 large loaves. We usually eat an entire loaf while it is warm. Dink & I like ours with lots of butter and jelly or honey. Anyway, we got a few pictures of some of the steps, and we hope you like them!

If anyone wants to know how we make our bread, just ask us and we’ll be happy to give you our instructions.
