Why Do Some People Think They Are Above The Law?

If you have been with us for awhile, you might know that we have policemen as neighbors and as friends. One policeman, in particular, is a really great guy and we consider him one of the best people we know. But there is one weird thing about him.

Because he is a policeman, he thinks he shouldn’t get tickets, and he also thinks other cops shouldn’t get tickets either. He says it’s a “professional courtesy” that policemen extend to each other when they do not give each other tickets if they break the law. We know all about professional courtesies, but only in today’s world is letting someone break the law considered one. He’s really weird when he gets stopped for speeding too. If he gets stopped for speeding, he won’t give anyone a speeding ticket for 2 days – like it’s his penance or something.

One of the cops we know got pulled for speeding. He wasn’t in his patrol car. When the policeman who pulled him came up to his window, the speeding cop held up his badge and asked, “Is there a problem, Officer?”

We would like to say a word to all policemen. If you want people to dislike you intensely, keep on fining them for “crimes” that you yourselves commit. Make others pay for speeding tickets while you yourself speed and don’t pay the fines. But if you want people to love you once again, be a person of integrity. If you speed and get caught, take that ticket and the consequences. Don’t be cheap!
