If Everybody was the Same, the World Would Not be Boring

It has been said that if everybody was the same, then the world would be a boring place because there would be no difference in character anywhere. Everybody would think the same, act the same, and have the same tastes as everybody else. So, it would be a boring world, people say.

I once read a story where the author was trying to prove his point that the world would be boring if everybody was the same. A boy was getting tired of his friends because they could never agree on what to do. One night he went to sleep wishing that everybody were like him. When he woke up, he went outside to find out that everybody was just like him! I mean everybody was exactly like him! They were literally all clones of himself.

He went to play with them and found that they were all willing to do what he wanted. He was very happy at first, but when he found out that they were all exactly like him it got a little boring. They were all thinking what he was thinking, and he could never have an original idea. Finally he left them in frustration and went up to his room to go to sleep. Then he woke up and realized that he had been dreaming the whole time.

He went back to sleep thoughtfully and when he woke up (he really woke up this time), he ran outside to see if everybody was still the same. He was overjoyed to find out that they were not. That was the basic plot of the story.

I guess I can see how it would be uninteresting if there were 6 billion clones of yourself running around the world (it might just be weird more than anything else). However, I seriously doubt that the person who first uttered this saying meant that everybody would be exactly the same, down to the last gene in your DNA. He probably just meant that if everybody held the same beliefs and had the same tastes, it would make for dull living. Plus, if everybody were clones, that means that everybody would either be male, or everybody would be female. Soon there would be no people left!

What I say is that if everybody thought the same, then there would (probably) be no fighting and no war. For instance, I think that everybody should leave each other alone, and then one can live the way they think is right. If everybody thought like me, nobody would try to force other people to think like them, they would just live normally.

Even of everybody had the mindset of forcing other people to see like them, the world would still be peaceful because, well . . . there would be nothing to change about other people since they would all be the same. Keep in mind that I don’t mean the same as in clones, I simply mean the same as in the way they think.

I think that the only way there could be war is if everybody liked to fight with other people. Then there would be war, but who just likes to fight for no reason? Usually war breaks out over a disagreement. Other times, war will begin when a nation wants to conquer another nation for its good land or resources. Like I said, however, there could be no war unless everybody had the kind of mind that likes to pick fights.

This is just what I think. This is just an idea that I had a couple days ago. I just thought that, actually, the world wouldn’t be a boring place if everyone was like me, because I like to leave people alone and be left alone and to me, that would just mean the world would be a peaceful place.

and also what if everyone was bored and for some reason agreed on having war???

wow i just thought about this same gender thing and what would the world be like if everyone was the same. But what makes people think that everyone else would be like them instead of everyone would be like their lame brother or some random person?

Julespaige, your comment just doesn’t make sense. If everyone was the same, there would still be differences of thinking? No, the scenario was exactly that: there wouldn’t be disagreements.

I like your idealism. However there will always be followers and leaders. And leaders who are good and bad alike. If you want to be left alone you might have to consider being a hermit. I think you need to understand the old joke that if you put two people in one room you will get three opinions. That’s just the way it is. While there might be some communities that respect peace – even some countries, the practical matter is peace will not come about if we all think alike. Because there will always be differences. It is the respecting of differences that matter.
