Red River Cereal

We have just recently started eating this hot cereal called Red River. It’s kind of like oatmeal, except it has a lot more texture, sort of like steel-cut oats. It has cracked wheat, cracked rye, and flax seeds in it. People really like this cereal and it gets great reviews.

There are a lot of ways you can prepare this food. One way to make it for 4 people is to start it cooking the night before. Use a 4 to 1 ratio of water to cereal. Bring the water to a boil and then add the Red River cereal. My mom adds about a tablespoon of old-fashioned oats to it to make it a little creamier. Turn off the heat and cover until morning. In the morning, add a pinch of salt, some brown sugar and raisins. Heat and stir. You can add a little more water or milk to get the consistency just the way you want it. It should be done in about five minutes.

Of course, this is just the way we eat it. If you want more ideas, you can find them on the internet. On a scale from one to ten, I would rate this cereal an 8 and John would rate it a 9 and if you are interested in trying it, you can get it here.
